Thales devotes some 20% of its consolidated revenues to research and development.

With over 25,000 researchers and engineers, 300 new inventions each year, a portfolio of 11,000 patents and more than 30 cooperation agreements with universities and public research laboratories in Europe, the United States and Asia, Thales is setting new standards of excellence in advanced technologies and innovation.

Environment

Thales has been committed to a proactive environmental protection policy since 1997. The company regularly evaluates its environmental impact taking into account all new building projects, waste management policy and procedure, as well as the production of all new products from conception to end-of-life disposal.

Since 2009, Thales has stepped up its measures to reduce CO2 emissions and monitor the climate. The company recently set up a Working Group on Climate Change to coordinate Thales policy worldwide. Through this Group, Thales expects to gain a more accurate picture of its climate footprint and further reduce CO2 emissions.

Thales holds leadership positions in both electronic on-board equipment and ground-based systems for navigation, air-traffic control, and simulation. We equip all types of aircraft and are a first tier partner of the world’s leading manufacturers, including airbus, Dassault Aviation, Boeing, Sukhoi and ATR.

Space
The European leader in satellite solutions through Thales Alenia Space, the company supports the design, development and deployment of orbital and ground infrastructure for telecommunications, earth observation, navigation, scientific missions.

Transportation
Thales is a world market leader in integrated transport systems. We serve ground transport operators and help to optimise use of rail and road infrastructure in terms of safety, efficiency of operations and passenger services.

Thales provides an unrivalled depth and breadth of capability across the defence and security markets.

Defence
As a European leader in defence systems, we serve all branches of the armed forces: Air, Land, Naval and Joint Operations. Our sophisticated systems provide operational mission support to detect and identify threats, distribute information, support command decisions, control engagements and deliver effects.

Security
Thales is a key provider of civil security systems and solutions. We serve governments, institutional customers and civil operators, to protect critical infrastructures, private data security and sensitive data for industry and financial institutions with integrated and resilient solutions.

International presence

Thales has expanded from France into the rest of Europe, Americas and the Asia-Pacific region, and is pursuing a growth strategy in promising new markets all over the world.
